Welcome to this week's parent bulletin.
I am delighted to say that we have had another great week at Upton-by-Chester High School. This week teachers have been watching each other's lessons, and it has been a pleasure to see the work of teachers and learners so clearly on display in our classrooms. As you know we want the very best for every learner and the programme of monitoring we have in place is to make sure that we are constantly looking at ways we can improve the teaching and learning in our classrooms.
Next week we are going to have a focus on uniform as it needs a bit of work following the adverse weather. Whilst the vast majority of our learners wear the uniform with pride we will be addressing the small minority where some changes need to be made. We are always grateful for your support in making sure our young people get this right.
I would also like to say a huge congratulations to Sam, Queenie and Jasmine for representing Upton-by-Chester High School at the Cheshire Rotary Debate Competition in the local rounds. Going up against some stiff competition from Christleton, Kings and Bishops, the judges agreed that Upton were the strongest team and should represent the Chester area in the regional debate taking place in Wrexham in March.
Feedback from the judges stated that "Upton High School advanced to the next round due to the participants’ storytelling, passion and belief in their arguments. Their rhetorical questions engaged the audience and the team’s unity and energy were palpable. The cohesive structure of the arguments, culminating in a strong conclusion, was another key strength". Strong praise indeed!
Also, congratulations to our 6th Form debate team who this week were crowned champions of the Chester High Schools Senior Debate competition, they now head to the district finals. Well done to all involved, and good luck in the next round.
Best wishes,
Mr L Cummins
